Help Your Teenager Deal With Acne
February 18, 2010
In teenage years acne can greatly affect the quality of life. It is believed that over eighty per cent of teenagers suffer from acne. This leads to embarrassment, lack of confidence and at the extreme, even depression. But if the acne is treated then these problems diminish. As a parent you can help your adolescent with their acne problem.
But acne cannot actually be cured as such. There are different kinds of acne each of which requires a different solution to the problem.
Because it is so embarrassing a teenager will try anything to control their acne. Help them out and be kind and gentle. It is hard for them to ask for help and if you criticize them for eating junk food or not taking care of themselves you will only isolate them. Tell them about the problems you had with acne and try to make discussing the problem as easy as possible for them.
Also remind them that they are not alone with their problem. Lots of teenagers suffer with it and forty per-cent suffer so badly that a dermatologist is required to help them.
If they are really worried then consulting a dermatologist will reassure them. Sometimes it is possible that the pimples are caused by something else and a dermatologist will know for sure and advise on treatment options.
In a worst case scenario a dermatologist can prescribe a prescription for products to help and give relief from the symptoms.
Make sure to let your teenager know that the acne usually goes away over time, and as they get older it normally clears up.
